Disco singing

Ok.. Os one of my favorite eras is without a doubt the 70's. I love the music and the relaxed vibe of the times. So in singing time today, we totally ROCKED the 70's. We are learning the song "follow the prophet"... If you have sang it or heard it-- you know it can go on and on and on and on and on and on... You get the picture. So today, during the chorus, we did a little disco dance. I read on sugardoodle.net an idea to roll your arms, thumb point to shoulders, shake finger in front, and point finger in air/to hip. It was a smashing good time. The kids learned and sang new prophet versus so they could boogie down in the chorus. We learned Nephi, Samuel --Oldies Adam and Noah. Next week we learn Joseph and Pres Monson... For added effect, I took in my Sharper Image Light effects machine. I originally bought it for Christmas time to shine rotating snowflakes on the house (that was a bust) but put in the star template and it was AWESOME int he primary room. We sang, then the 2nd counselor would hit the lights and we had the disco light effect on the walls for the chorus... MUCH MUCH FUN! Maybe next week I will get a picture... And how Iwihs I had some cool clothes to wear....hmmmm.....

I remember

It has been one year since my dad lost his 3 month battle with cancer. I miss him. My kids miss him. Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary and it SUCKS!!!! I remember last year very vividly. I remember dragging the recliner into his room so my mom could sit with him. I remember going to bed. I remember getting the covers on and resting my head. I remember my mom coming into my room to tell me she thought me dad stopped breathing. I remember immediately looking at the clock. I remember the time on the clock-- 11:02pm. I remember going upstairs with my mom. I remember going into dad's room. I remember taking his pulse. I remember I felt NOTHING. I remember the warmth of his skin. I remember trying for a pulse again. I remember wanting to start CPR. I remember I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I remember telling my mom we needed to call Mel, our hospise nurse. I remember asking if she wanted me to call. I remember her calling Mel. I remember Mel coming and unhooking dad. I remember Nickle Morturay-Scott and David coming over. I remember Cynthia and Derrek coming over. I remember saying goodbye to Dad as we carried him out. I remember crying. I remember wishing time could rewind. I remember looking for a picture of Dad. I remember the snow that started to fall..... I remember how numb I felt. I remember texting Jamie to tell him to call when he woke up. I remember writing my talk Dad had asked me to give at his funeral. I remember I was unable to write it before--I just couldn't put words on paper. I remember going to bed with the lights on. I remember I couldn't sleep with them off. I remember waking up after 2-3 hours of sleep and driving my mom to Payson to tell my grandma before we told anyone else. I remember her collapsing in our arms when she saw both of us and asked who was with Brent....she figured it out and collapsed. I remember talking to Uncle Ernest. I remember driving back to Fillmore and my mom calling more family and friends on the drive in the snowy slushy roads. I remember being angry and wondering WHY. I remember the next few days seemed to drag on forever. I remember the incredible acts of kindness. I remember all the food. I remember. And I remember more I won't write at this time. I am happy for the memories....I just wish I had one more day....

Make the most of everyday. Live life to it's fullest. 3 months really can change your life.

It was a feature story on the Winter Olympics I did in our PE classes at school. My favorite was the torch I rigged up. When the "torch" touched the large olympic cauldron, it started on fire (a fan and crepe paper)... It was awesome!!!

It was a great 3 weeks and the kids ALL had a blast! It was a Lot of work, but also a LOT of fun! Now what am I going to do next year???

Addie all Minnie'd up!

Addison went to a birthday party yesterday... What ever is a girl supposed to wear to a party??? Addie knows--her party clothes! She LOVES Disney right now... and ONLY wants to wear skirts or dresses... SO, her party outfit: a tutu made by Aunt Cara, her minnie leggings from grandma Olson at Disney, new minnie sparkle bling shirt from Disney, favorite red suede shoes, and shiny red hairbows made by Aunt Cara! It looked adorable and she had a blast at the party! Our weather was high 60's so it was perfect spring like weather! She added her black sweater with the faux fur collar and sparkle buttons for a little comfort! Perfect way to complete her perfectly cute minnie outfit!

Last fall I was called to be the primary singing lady. It has been fun and I have been trying to find fun and creative ways to motivate the kids to not SING each week... Some have worked better than others... I wanted to post a few of my favs so far.

I say this awesome idea from another blog (Beehive Messages) where the choirester created a "singing club" I adapted my idea from hers. The criteria to be in the club is to:

1. Learn the monthly songs
2. Learn the monthly scriptures
3. Learn the 13 Articles of Faith
4. Sing in Primary and Sacrament Meeting
5. Try to Be like Jesus in Primary each week
6. Share musical talents during Singing Time Talent Days **have yet to do this**...

All the children in primary --Jr and Sr joined the club~ they were given a ribbon and the club rules. Jr primary just has to try to sing the songs their best and read the monthly scriptures and AoF...

I made red, yellow and blue ribbon (our primary colors) lanyards. I glued velcro on the ends (like our disney pin lanyards) and glued a circle button in the middle that reads: "Gainesville 2nd Ward Star Singer". Our first primary in Jan, I showed them my lanyard with all the buttons on it, read the club rules and told them with practice, they could all fill their lanyards. The kids are all encouraged to bring their ribbons each week with their scriptures. It isn't a singing contest--everyone who trys their best will succeed!

I made 2 inch circle buttons in publisher, and found a Fiskars round punch that cut them perfectly. Cara helped me figure out to use a small brad fastener to hold the button on the ribbon. I found some cute heart and star brads. It works well to hold the card stock on the ribbon!

I had this cool red, yellow, blue star box that I made our "STAR SINGER" box. It has all the extra lanyards, brads, and monthly buttons they can earn by passing off their songs! It took a lot longer than I anticipated, but I am glad I did it and hope the kids make it to August and get all of their pins! It was expecially cute to see the sunbeams wear their star singer medals (what they called them) and sing their little hearts out today!

I display the "STAR SINGER" box on the piano each week to remind them to be great singers. When they pass off the AoF, Scriptures, and Talent, I will give them a TBD larger fun shaped brad for their lanyard!

During singing time today, we had our 1st pass off attempt of I Know That My Savior Loves Me. The teachers, bishop and I all determined that the kdis all did FANTASTIC and passed it off on their 1st attempt! Because we had an olympic theme for singing time, it was a GOLD MEDAL performance of the song! We put the "I Know that My Savior Loves Me" button on the lanyards with a heart shaped fastener during sharing time and haned the lanyards back at the end of primary!

On Super Bowl Sunday, I made a rather bright, football field, a football for each class, a penalty flag, brought a whistle, I wore a black and white shirt and black skirt to be the "REFEREE". For decorations I had some football helmets, pom poms and a large #1 foam finger. Each classes football started on the 10 yard line.

In Jr Primary, the teachers and I decided how many "yards" of singing the classes got after each verse or song we sang. Most were 10 or 20 yards. I moved the classes footballs to the next yard marker after each song and they all scored a "Touchdown" at the same time in our Singing time Super Bowl! I would cheer with the pom poms after a good performance, or hold up the #1 Foam Finger for Super Good singing. I had the penalty flag ready to throw for rowdy behavior or silliness, but I didn't get to throw it once;)... The kids did a great job!

In Sr Primary, we reviewed I know That My Savior Loves Me and He Sent His Son. Before each song verse, I would say, "the class that sings the best or answers the question correctly will get 10, 15, or 20 yards for this play." At the end of singing time, each class was given one final chance for a Touchdown (Hail Mary Pass) to score--no matter where they were on the field. The kids were great and all Scored a touchdown.

I talked about being on a team greater than the Colts or Saints or even the Florida Gators:) We are all apart of our Heavenly Fathers team and can score our own Touchdowns by trying to be like our Savior! It was a lot of fun and the kids sang great!

I took some pictures of my prop. The field wasn't my best, but late Saturday Night I thought of this and that was the only green poster board I could find. I think I need a cricut to cut out cute letters and such... The flag was tissue paper and a last minute addition to help with being reverent... I am saving this for Gator Football Season next fall! My memory card hates me....So does my laptop

OK- so found the memory card I thought I lost at CVS when I was making a photo book for my girls, but itwas in my wallet where I left it for safe keeping. Yea.. But my laptop doesn't read HD cards and my new one is high def... So I had to wait for Jamie to get home so I could use his computer. My poor laptop is on its last key-literally. Needs a new power cord, keypad (I plugged in an old keyboard), and if you look at it wrong, it shuts down! Guess what my extra class cash is going to buy me????
